MJA Strongly Condemns Exclusion of Media Outlets from President's Press Conference
MJA strongly condemns the exclusion of several popular media outlets from President Muizzu's press conference on 7 Sep 2026. This is a direct obstruction of press freedom and the public's right to information. We urge the President's Office to ensure equal access for all media outlets.

MALE—The Maldives Journalists Association (MJA) has been told by member journalists that several popular and widely followed media outlets were not invited to the press conference given by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu at the President’s Office on 7 September 2026.
We are very concerned at this exclusion. MJA sees this targeted exclusion of journalists as an impediment to press freedom and a violation of the public’s right to information by the President’s Office.
A transparent government must be accountable to the public through a free press. Therefore, we strongly condemn this act and call on the President’s Office to guarantee equal access and opportunity for all news media to cover official events.
